Every business needs to have a Facebook page. It doesn’t matter how large your business is. In fact, if your business is a small startup, then you have all the more reason to take advantage of the marketing potential that Facebook provides. Facebook has over a billion users – over a billion! That’s a huge audience that you can target for a fraction of what it costs to run more traditional advertising, such as TV ads or radio ads. If you do your research and spend the time it takes to set up and maintain a Facebook profile, then you have a very good chance at increasing your brand awareness and customer base. However, first things first. If you haven’t set up a Facebook profile yet, then you need to – immediately. The following are three steps for creating a business Facebook page:
Customize your Facebook page URL
This is much more important than it may seem. The last thing you want is a Facebook URL that has a 12 digit string of numbers at the end. This is going to make it very difficult for your brand to show up if anyone searches for it. Not to mention that a proper URL will make your company look much more professional and authentic. Making sure that your brand name is in the URL is important for SEO (search engine optimization). Set up your Facebook URL by clicking on the “edit page” option on your page settings. Scroll down to the “update public info” and choose the “basic information” option on the left hand side. Here you’ll be able to pick your URL as long as it hasn’t been taken already.

Fill out the Basic Information section
Make sure that you take the time to go through and fill out the basic information section of your page. This includes writing a short paragraph in the “about” section. Make sure that you are descriptive in what your brand is and what your company does, but be succinct as well - nobody wants to read through pages of text, after all. Use SEO keywords (but not forcibly) in your text as well to make your Facebook page come up more during searches. Always include a link to your main company website as well. Don’t ignore the photo either. Choose a photo that represents your brand and upload it. Most companies will use their company logo, which is generally the best option. Most users are going to ignore pages without photos because they seem less trustworthy. And if you don’t fill out the “about” section, then many users will have no idea what you are or what you do.
Begin posting content on your page
Followers are only going to check your Facebook page if you regularly post content. So begin doing so right away! The content you can post varies. It’s a good idea to post links to your blog whenever you release new content, as this is an excellent way to increase your web traffic. Liking other people’s posts is also a good idea as it shows that you consider yourself a member of the Facebook community and that you participate in it regularly. Whatever pictures or articles you post or share, make sure that they relate to your brand in some way. One thing that you do want to avoid is posting advertisements. No on will want to like your page if all you do is spam. No one wants to have products or services shoved down their throat. Provide information that is helpful or interesting in order to increase your brand loyalty and help to increase brand awareness. Sales will come as a result of these strategies.
It doesn’t matter how big your business is, the benefits of having and maintaining a Facebook page cannot be denied. Begin creating a business Facebook page by using these three tips.
